Guest Bath Reno is Done!!!

And we're back! After taking a small break this summer from working on our house, Joe and I got motivated and began working on our 1/2 bath on the main level this fall. The bathroom was original to our 1969 fixer-upper.

Let's take a look back at what it looked like when we first purchased the house last winter. . . . . .

Gotta love that floral wallpaper!

In order to save money, Joe and I decided to do as much work as we could. I scraped the wallpaper off and Joe got some help from his Dad taking out the vanity and toilet.

The hardest part was taking out the tile floor. It was set in 2inch of cement and wiring.

And, here is what you have all been waiting for . . . . .the after pics!

Bachelorette Party!

My sister is getting married in 2 Weeks! It's getting so close. As maid of honor, I hosted her bachelorette party this past weekend in St Louis. We did a little wine tasting in Augusta, hung out at the pool, hit up the chocolate bar and went dancing.

I wanted to surprise her with these bachelorette cookies I found on pinterest. They were super easy to make and turned out better than I thought!  I used a heart cookie cutter and cut off the bottom of the heart to make it more appropriate for her lingerie shower.

Kitchen Remodel

Finally! We finished the kitchen about 2 weeks ago and just finished moving in. The rest of our house is still a disaster but the kitchen is clean and organized. Here are some before pictures to remind you where we started:

You got to love those 70s cabinets and linoleum floor.
Ok, and now for the after pics!

I still need a new light over the kitchen table - any suggestions?

Joe has his door out the deck and grill now! I'm expecting him to cook out every night for me now!

My amazing pendant lights are from Pottery Barn! Love them. They make these awesome shadows on the ceiling at night!

I still have some touch up painting to do (in case you saw the blue tape that is still up in some places. I'm also still shopping for a backsplash and lighting for over the kitchen table. But, we have moved in and the kitchen is at least functional!

Demo!

We are moving right along on our kitchen remodel.  Our contractor finished all the demo on the kitchen this week. Hopefully this week he will be able to finish all the electrical work and start dry walling.  My parents were in town this weekend and it was fun showing them the new house. We picked out some paint colors and started painting the trim in the family room.

So we bought a fixer!

So, Joe and I took our (ok, my first) step into the real estate market this winter and bought a beautiful 1 1/2 story house in Des Peres, MO. For those of you not familiar with St Louis, it's right at two major highways - I64/270.

I have been dying to purchase a home for a while. I love looking through real estate websites and going to open houses. I'm pretty sure if I wasn't a nurse practitioner, I'd definitely be in real estate! It is so much fun.
After months of searching, I finally got Joe warmed up to the idea of buying a house. We made our offer the week before Christmas and after a week of haggling with the seller, finally agreed on a price as Joe and I were driving back to Kansas City for the holidays. It was so fun to share this exciting news with our parents over the holiday break!

The house is approximately 40 years old. We purchased it from the original owner. There hasn't been much at all done to the house except some basic maintenance. We are talking original kitchen cabinets, lots of wood paneling (I mean lots) and a few green bathroom cabinets! Yikes! Plus, tons of wallpaper . .. EVERYWHERE.  I kind of like have projects to work on but the house is a little overwhelming at this point.

Here are a few pictures!

The Kitchen! (gotta love that peep through to the family room opening!)

The Family room! Joe finally got a fireplace!
Dining room . . . more green floral wallpaper!

Yay for gold 70s 1/2 bath!

Joe and I are tackling the kitchen renovation prior to moving in! Hopefully in the next 4-6 weeks it will be complete and I can post some "after" pictures! We are also fixing up the laundry room. Joe and I have spent the past two weekends scraping wallpaper, spackling holes and priming! Removing wallpaper is tough work. If you are thinking of installing wallpaper, ask yourself . . . .is this wallpaper timeless? :) Probably not. Are you going to want to remove the wallpaper in 10 years? We're sticking with paint for now! More pictures to come soon! Hopefully you will follow along as we work on "The fixer!"
